Furniture Maker
My name is Noah Smith.
I am a furniture maker currently traveling across the country.
I grew up with both my father and grandfather building homes. Naturally, I remember going to their job sites from an early age and nailing some scrap pieces together to make something. I received my first workbench from my father when I was six years old.
Throughout the rest of my childhood, I worked with my father, grandfather, and several family friends on various different projects and jobs. As my time in high school drew to an end, I still wasn’t really sure what career I would choose. My mother suggested I work with a furniture maker that was a close family friend.
After that first day working with him, I was hooked. I spent the next six months in his shop several times a week, and started looking for a furniture school soon after. I found the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute and was accepted into the 2022-2023 furniture design program. Directly after graduation, I was hired on full-time at the school.
I have spent the last year as the assistant instructor for the furniture program and building furniture.
